Nearly 3 weeks recovery following the Robin Hood 100 - I needed the recovery time as the lurgy I was carrying into the RH100 - came back with a vengeance, my body’s immune system is always at a low ebb following the longer stuff so no great surprise.
Recovery will be something I need to prefect for next year's dream of completing the Centurion Grand Slam - I have found that as I have progressed from marathon to multi day marathon to longer distances etc. my body does object initially then adapts, just like a training cycle with initial DOMS. Next year will be an interesting learning experience, I'm hoping that lessons learnt during the GB 10 in 10 will help, not just look after myself physically - but cope mentally. Each 100 miler will need to be an individual race but the race will not be completed at the finish line, just one in a set – the actual finish line will be the A100 in October. Right now it’s a scary & exciting prospect in equal measure – especially the NDW100 that scares the hell out of me !
But for now, time to get back to business – I have just speed walked these last 3 weeks allowing the body to recover, with lots of stretching & eating !
This Saturday, sees my unofficial 100 marathon at the GB Autumn weekend, the next race will be the Stort 30 & the following weekend my official 100th all in Luna Sandals!
Every weekend in November is booked up, just looking for a few races in December to complete the year.
Isn’t it stupid that you don’t run for a few weeks as you need the recovery, which in your head you know, but then your head is also panicking because it thinks you will have forgotten how to run – maybe that’s just me!
