UltraRunner 2017-2018 MMKAC Club Awards

MMKAC - Ultra Runner 2017-2018 presented by Greg Rutherford - at the club's annual awards - just a little bit chuffed #neveraverage

I am a member of Marshals Milton Keynes Athletics Club, and I picked up this award last night - its interesting actually as I thought that this category was perhaps a recent addition to their awards recognition as a club highly focused on youth development athletics & rather speedy vets.

It's therefore surprising that this award has been recognized since 2004

Stats:

80% male winners in 15 years, 20% Female (myself included) not dissimilar to an ultra start line up.

In the 15 years only 11 names appear as some have won consecutive years, I appear to be the 3rd recipient to have completed 100 miles ( i believe the other 2 males did once).

I think as we try to encourage more females to the start line of ultras (without any adjustments to rules or ballots) its good that clubs like MMKAC recognize the ultra runners, and I hope I do help that cause locally.

Last stat I was the only female nominated in the same category as her husband :-) as he wasn't in the Female Vets 45 - but personally I think he should share the award & title.

As a female remember the sky is the limit and age should never be a barrier to what you can achieve, if you are prepared to put the work in - ordinary people just like you & me can achieve extraordinary things.
