Just over 3 weeks ago I ran the NDW100 - the hardest 100 to date in the quest for the Centurion Grand Slam, recovery has been slow mentally & physically - but yesterday I did a 13 mile reccy for next up A100 (October) and finally felt my legs come alive, might have been their eagerness to get out of the heavy rain or their joy at splashing in puddles!

I have the Dunstable Downs Marathon next weekend which will give me a better indication of my recovery & anything additional I need to change in preparation for the final 100 miler of the year.
Running in the rain yesterday was a good reminder of the impact a change in weather can have, so far this year it has been a story of really high temperatures & humidity - yesterday was a reality check that October may well bring cold & rain - last year runners had to cope with the tail end of a heavy storm! It's all a huge learning curve - each race is different and the knowledge gained is invaluable - both mentally, physically & practically.
On that note, I'm so very chuffed to have no less than 3 Clients heading into their first 100 miler in 2019 - I am so proud of them and can't wait to share their journeys!
So, folks generally go shopping on Bank Holidays right? I've kind of been shopping today - well for races that it
This year for me has always been about gaining experience of 100 milers, the dream was to achieve the Centurion Grand Slam - so far I have enjoyed the journey beyond belief although reading my blogs you might think otherwise - but along with the struggle, pain & effort - comes great sense of achievement and freedom, and love & friendship - with each pacer & crew I have shared moments never to be forgotten - likewise with fellow runners.
So I guess it's no surprise that the longer term goal would be to experience more of the same in 2019 - I intend to complete another 4 100 milers next year, and then hopefully move beyond the distance in 2020.
Here is the "shopping" list
GB Ultras - Chester 100 Ultra 18th May 2019
GB Ultras - Pennine Barrier 100 23rd June 2019
Centurion - NDW - Aug 2019

Now can someone take away the debit card & laptop !
Hold the vision - trust the process

Happy Running
